Economics, Hampton. Hampton, Economics.

Because the two of you have never been introduced.

Yes, let us tax the oil companies for making too much money (never mind that making money is what they're supposed to do. Why don't we charge a tax on the bars that make too much money on me during the weekend?). After all, everyone knows that when you put a tax on something, the price will go down, right? Right? Because companies never pass off tax increases to the public.

Taking 18 cents a gallon off of gas helps consumers, and the oil companies never have to pass off costs onto us. Adding taxes? Congrats, you're putting a burden on the people you're claiming to want to help.

As for no good solutions, I've got one, though it'll make your hackles rise.
