It amazes me that our state has continued to send Bennie Thompson back to Congress; however, I'm not blind as to the reasons, and I understand the reason that he continues to be sent back to Washington. But the Congressman-for-Life is the chairman of one of the most prominent, important, and deadly serious committees, and that is an awesome responsibility. That's the Homeland Security Committee.
However, the Congressman-for-Life has used it to hand out contracts like candy, turning the committee into another pork-barrel extravaganza. The new fleet of police cars for the Bolton police department (a department consisting of eight people) is a fine example of this. Instead of promoting the security of the US, the Congressman-for-Life has turned it into a candy store.
Disgusting, but not unexpected.
