Last week we saw three anniversaries in the space program, one momentous, the others tragic.
The first was the 50th anniversary of Explorer I, the first US satellite, reaching orbit, on February 1, 1958. The second was the fifth anniversary of the Columbia disaster, on February 1, 2003. And of course, the explosion of the Challenger shuttle, on January 28, 1986, 21 years ago.
