A Runoff in District 19

District 19's Democrats are in runoff phase. The two top vote-getters are Brandon Cherry and Mark Duvall.

Mr. Cherry hails from Lee County. Mr. Cherry was a student at Mooreville Attendance Center until he reached high school; for some reason, he chose to leave and attend Saltillo High School-probably the fact he lived in the Saltillo school district. I've met Mr. Cherry; he's loud, bombastic, and has a temper.

Mr. Duvall hails from Itawamba County. This is his second run for the seat, having competed in 1999 and finishing third in the primary. Much like Jeremy Martin, he was slandered by Mr. Franks as a homosexual during his last run. Unfortunately, the Tank has yet to meet Mr. Duvall.

Any guess whom we here at the Tank prefer? Brandon Cherry's father is an administrator at Lee County Schools. He's been a supporter of Johnny Green for many years, and worked for him at Saltillo High School. Mr. Green is in the pocket of Jamie Franks Jr and the Cholesterol Crew. I'm shocked that the Democrats in D19 are letting Mr. Cherry run-after all, their mantra in the last election was "24 is too young." Mr. Cherry is about that age.

Here at the Tank, we'll be taking the Devil We Don't Know.

This is Brandon Cherry and I am 23 years old, which is five years older than my grandfather was when he fought in World War 2. He was apart of, "The Greatest Generation" that stood up against communism and attacks on our Country. The very framework of our society was paid for by young Americans making the ultimate sacrifice and giving their lives up for a country they loved. This is prevalent in Iraq today where close friends of mine have done this very thing. If I am to young to run for office then why don't you go tell a mother that lost her son in war or Veteran that fought and served overseas the same thing. I'll be willing to bet your not going to receive a very good reaction. If you tell me I am to young to run for office its the same as telling my grandfather he was to young to fight for his country. Its a disrespect to him and others that have served overseas and is something I will not stand for. I grew up in Saltillo and lived on old Saltillo Road for ten years and then when my father took over at Mooreville Jr. High we built a house here in Mooreville I followed him for support. I did attend Mooreville Jr. High in the seventh grade but moved back to Saltillo to finish my high school education. Yes I lived in the Mooreville School district but there is a law that says any student that's parents work in Lee County School district can attend ANY school without paying tuition. As is in EVERY county in the state. This is one of the very few benefits teachers have in this state. Our teachers have one of the greatest responsibilities of any other occupation. They hold our children's future in the palm of their hand. The better our teachers do then the better our children will do. This will be the KEY in future economic development in this state. This being said our teachers are some of the lowest paid professions in America. Why does a profession that is so vital to the success and failure of our economic structure paid so poorly? Letting their children attend any school in the school district that they chose is a benefit they deserve and I am going to fight and see they have more than that so we can recruit new and highly qualified teachers in the future. You can call my father what you want, that's your right but while doing so remember who fought to give you that right, men like my grandfather. Remember as well that Mooreville Jr. High, High School, and Elementary are graded out EVERY year as having some of the highest test scores in the county. Apparently someone is doing something right. They have great teachers and GREAT LEADERSHIP!
I own and operate my own business its called Cherry Communications and is located in Fulton, Ms. I started it two years ago because I come from a background of hardworking people. We are not rich and have worked for everything we have. So with academic scholarships and all my parents still could not afford to pay for tuition so I had to work and pay for it. My business is still in operation and is very successful despite having to be shut down for short time due to this campaign. I will finish my business degree this fall from the University of Mississippi Tupelo Campus and have attended both I.C.C and Northeast in the previous years. Its easy to talk down about another individual while lifting yourself up in the process. If this is what you chose to do the I truly feel sorry for you, but at least get your facts straight before you do. I apologize also for my grammar. I have been writing speeches all summer so I have become accustomed to writing how I would speak. I will not duck or run from yours or any other questions and I will not ignore you when you talk about my family. This comment is directly to you, the blogger, "Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house." I know who you are. There are no perfect people in this world. As my late grandfather said, "There isn't a man living that hasn't done something he regrets." We all will make mistakes, we all have our flaws but what separates cowards from others is the ability to admit them and learn from them. Cowards point fingers and blame others for not accomplishing things in there life. So try and stay away from that. I respect your opinions and beliefs, were are all entitled to them and that's what makes this country great and separates us from others. Just remember who gave you those rights.
