The Holland Dynasty

While most of the state is focused on the up-ticket and statewide offices, in Lee County there's a situation worth focusing on regarding the Holland family. As most reading this know, Steve Holland is a power broker in the House; some, yours truly included, would call him the brains of the operation in that chamber. He's certainly the brains behind Jamie Franks Jr; exactly what issue have they ever deviated on? Were it not for Mr. Franks' laziness and lack of intellectual curiosity, he'd be seen for what he is: the guy whose strings are pulled by Holland.

Back in south Lee County, Holland's mother, Sadie Holland, is an elected judge.

Now his brother Billy Joe is making a run for the Fifth Supervisor's district in Lee County. This, of course, comes from the Champions of the Little Man section of the state, the Populist Firebrands Fighting For The People.

(These same people also, of course, bashed the Republican party for daring to nominate the son of a former president for the same office. Of course today it's different when the wife of a former president is running.)

Exactly how many 'poor working families' land three people in public office? Those, after all, are the ones that his faction are supposedly concerned with. (You know, in the days before Identity Politics, a wealthy man-or family-could have represented the poor. Of course, today you can't have that. David Hampton, if you really want to know why John Edwards campaign can't catch a break, it's because HE'S WORTH HALF A BILLION DOLLARS). Somewhere, Theodore Bilbo must be spinning in his grave. Even Bilbo wouldn't have had the stones to try as ambitious a power-grab as this one. I guess being a big wheel in the House isn't enough, is it? There's got to be a Holland in every office, and a stooge in the Lt. Governor's chair, too.

Naturally, there's not a word of this on the editorial pages of the Daily Journal. Were he not of the D persuasion, they'd jump on him with both feet. Then again, were he not of said persuasion, Leesha Faulkner would have provided a transcript and video of his interview for the opposition. So he's got that going for him.
