It's Neshoba County Fair time, a time when the eyes of Mississippi-and, maybe the nation if ESPN shows up again-will turn to the annual stump-speaking in Philadelphia. All the big names will be there, and so will Jamie Franks Jr, a man recognized by almost (maybe?) 45% of the population! He'll be speaking at 10:20 or so tomorrow morning. You can expect it to be covered by our pals, JT & Dave, with me liveblogging the event as best I can from their broadcast. You can expect it covered elsewhere by folks who hope Mr. Franks wins.
I would say the speech is critical for Mr. Franks. Either one of his Republican opponents is better known than him at this point, since their names have been in the paper so much, and he's been a footnote. The two of them have been cautious in the race, as well, as neither is as bloody as Mr. Franks would like (images of the '99 Dem Lt. Gov primary race dancing in his head I'm sure, possibly the dirtiest campaign I've ever seen).
Also: Attorney General Samson will explain how suing independent oil companies (the ones not named Texaco, Exxon-Mobil, or BP) and prosecuting schoolteachers at the request of rich lawyers is "standing up for the little man." John Arthur Eaves will shoot spitballs at Haley Barbour, and nobody will really notice. George Dale ducks an assassination attempt, since every other try at getting him off the ballot failed.
