You're Not Pro Life Unless You're Pro Big Government or Something

I see this statement a lot (or something like it). I have kind of pondered it over the last few weeks. This is mostly because it's the left's new favorite talking point to shame you into giving them whatever they want, namely expanding the welfare state.

Yeah, I'm pro-life. That doesn't mean that I love the border situation. I'm so pro-life that I don't want them killed, which I think the authors intimate all pro-life people want, though I do want an orderly and lawful immigration system that discourages the risky proposition of travelling clandestinely to the southern border from all points south using less than savory means or people. That's a pro-life position-that the law should not be so haphazardly enforced that they encourage people to risk their life in order to break them.

I'm pro-life. That means that I want an efficient, humane Department of Human Services in my state that doesn't have judges sign blank documents so that kids could be illegally taken from their parents. This is a pro-life position-that the state should not have unlimited power to simply take children from their parents. The corruption of the Kentucky Health and Family Services people did that in the above link; increasing their budget (or that of their counterpart in Mississippi) wouldn't help the issue, simply because they are abusing their power.

(An aside-in a country with a less-government worshiping press, the Kentucky story would have led the front page in every widely read paper the country-and the Clarion-Ledger too-and would have been a top story on the TV news. But alas, I had to learn about it through other means).

I'm pro-life. That means I think that your wacky ideas about vaccines being unhealthy is stupid.  I don't care if you're a hot actress from the 90s or 00's or the son of one of America's leading political families. I don't want them within a mile of a healthy child.

Yeah I'm pro-life. I donate to Crisis Pregnancy Centers in order to help women avoid the trauma of an abortion. I've donated clothing and other items to charity specifically to clothe them. I've encouraged people to adopt for years, after the example of my own family, which has 4 adopted members. Your snarky tweet or shaming article isn't going to make me change any of that behavior.

It's an old talking point on the left-"You only care about children til they're born!" But for the most part it isn't true. If it was true, I guess the opposite is true of the left-you guys only care about people on election day, since that's the only time some of them see you.

Obama Camp: You Are Racist If You Vote McCain

It's been all over the place this week.

There was the Kansas governor suggesting that. There was a poll out on MSN this morning which stated it. The Obama camp put out a Spanish-language ad saying McCain favored immigration restriction, which is laughable (sadly). Jack Cafferty of CNN says that the only explanation for opposition to the Messiah is racism. So did two Democratic reps in Ohio.

Yes, it can't be because Obama has no resume-forget experience, he's not ever done a great job at anything other than writing about his favorite subject, Barack Obama-or his connection with terrorists and various left-wing loonies, his underhanded Chicago background-getting his opponenets thrown off the ballot or having their private records unsealed-or because he speaks in vague self-help terms when he's not espousing outright socialism. It must be, has to be, racism.

The Messiah Speeketh

Now, I agree that immigrants should learn English. I agree with that. But understand this. Instead of worrying about whether immigrants can learn English— they'll learn English — you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish. You should be thinking about, how can your child become bilingual? We should have every child speaking more than one language.

You know, it's embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe, and all we can say [is], "Merci beaucoup." Right?

Because we all know people love the French...

"They'll learn English." So sayeth Obamessiah, so let it be. Reality, meet Barry. Barry, meet Reality. Have you been to a large city with a significant immigrant population? Every sign in immigrant neighborhoods-every freaking one, people, it's amazing-is in a language I can classify as "Not English."

English is the glue that holds this country together. Immigrants aren't asked to learn that-or our cultural values-and that's part of what is fraying our society. Look at Britain, France, Germany, and the trouble they have with unassimilated immigrants. I watch riots in Paris, no-go zones in London, and terrorist cells in Berlin. There but for the grace of God go we.

Nobody opposes foreign language classes. What we oppose is being told we are the problem. I guess we're bitterly clinging to our language now. And this guy wonders why we question his patriotism after he says stupid things like that.

Edited to Add: I don't apologize for speaking the lingua franca that is English. It's as though someone should have been embarrassed for being a native Latin or Greek speaker during the height of their empires.

Way to Go Nash

Jere Nash has said on his blog what every Dem who wants to open the floodgates for potential Democratic voters, I mean, undocumented workers, really wants to say in their heart of hearts: that enforcing the law in regards to immigration is WRONG. Glad to know he's gotten that out of the way. Damage control post followed, of course.

Advice to Jere: Think before you blog. Somewhere, Gregg Harper is smiling.

Davy's At It Again

Naturally, he had words for that mean old racist Haley Barbour on his blog today, regarding illegal immigration (you know, the kind where they break the law and stuff), but strangely, nothing for Eaves and Franks on their continued gay bashing.

Nice of Davy to take a week off during the Hood/Cowboys laugher, the Espy/Xavier endorsement, and the Great Debate Debate and not address anything but the Inate Racism of the People Who Disagree With Him.

Also, Davy thinks that curbing illegal immigration could hurt the economy. Yeah, because the inevitable tax increases that the tax swap will force upon us won't hurt a bit. And all those pesky right to work laws we have? We really don't need 'em.

Besides, the economy already sucks and we should elect John Edwards president to enact universal health care, right? Because we know that when that happens, all the illegals will just head back to Mexico instead of becoming free riders on the system.

Reality, meet Dave. Dave, reality.

Let me channel David Hampton here...

For a long time in Mississippi people have used code words for things. "The late unpleasantness" was the Civil War. "Poll tax" meant keeping the poor from voting. "Outside agitators" meant civil rights workers. "One of us for all of us" meant for whites by a white. "Enforcing immigration law" means running brown people out of the state with torches and pitchforks.



So when a sitting attorney general (and state rube!) says, "If we do it smart" what does that mean?

It must mean...it can ONLY mean...that Samson believes that being a huckster, engaging in tomfoolery with the elections system, playing a little three card monte with the law...is perfectly ok. After all, he didn't say to people in the Greenwood Voters League (a group that is...shall we say...heavily Democratic) that he wanted them to vote early and vote often. He just said they had to be smart.



You know, like Ike Brown was smart.



As Josef Stalin supposedly said, "It's not the people who vote that count. It's the people who count the votes." But Uncle Joe didn't have to use code words, did he?

Timing, Thy Name Is Hampton

So David Hampton writes a story on how not wanting a mass of lawbreakers (which is what an illegal immigrant is, Davy-hence the name) to become free riders on the American system seems a little...oh, he doesn't so much say racist as he implies it throughout. And just like clockwork, here comes Brett Kittridge letting us all know about a case in Rankin County in which one man was killed and another two wounded during a 'melee' on the Reservoir in Jackson.

I guess we should all be demanding justice for those poor men. After all, they're probably victims of some mean white men anyway. Whoever they killed probably had it coming, right, Dave? That's what social justice is, after all-making up for past transgressions by the white man against those of stronger melanin content than him.

Good writing, Davy. Hope the families of those three men-one of whom has lost a loved one-enjoy your work as much as I do. Of course, I find it funny in an out-of-touch sort of way. They probably think something different. I guess that makes them racist or something.
