I Must Be Experiencing What They Call A Disconnect

Let me see if I understand this correctly after reading this morning's Clarion-Ledger story on potential voting problems.

Jamie Franks Jr, the Golden Boy himself, spent twelve years in the state legislature. During that time, he was responsible, according to him, for everything that came down the pike. But during this time, he never once thought about working on the labyrinth that is our state elections system?

Per Chairman Jamie this morning:

"The cavalcade of confusing and conflicting statements from state officials would baffle every lawyer from Matlock to Perry Mason and could lead to a frustrating experience Tuesday for many Mississippi voters," said Jamie Franks, chairman of the state Democratic Party.

Twelve years in public office, ladies and gentlemen, and this year it became a problem.

Remember that post I made about the Democrat strategy for Mississippi this year? That quote is the first shot being fired. The ground is being prepared to lay every bit of the blame on Secretary of State Hosemann when the whole thing plays out Tuesday. Let's be 100% clear: the "state officials" are all going to be in the Secretary of State's office, not the AG's. The prediction of a "frustrating experience...for many Mississippi voters" probably won't apply in Madison, Rankin, or DeSoto counties.

I called it last week. This is the shot across the bow by the Golden Boy.

We Are Not A Wing of the Democratic Party

Recently I drove by the state headquarters of the Mississippi Association of Educators. In the windows were huge Ronnie Musgrove signs. When I say huge, I mean that they covered most of the window.

People should keep that in mind when they hear of an MAE endorsement or read MAE propaganda. Members should know that their dues don't go entirely to teachers, but in large piles of cash to the Democratic party. They are in effect an organ of the Democratic party.

So Monty, A Question...

Is a pay raise more important than declaring a state of emergency so that you could get a new ottoman for the Governor's Mansion?

The lack of a partisan marker on the ballots for Senate, perhaps they'd like to read this little nugget about a special election on the coast.

Yes, that's right: Special elections in Mississippi come with no partisan label. At least until our Intrepid Attorney General decides that they need one. They didn't have a problem with no ID on them for Snidely. Why now?

There's an Old Adage

It starts out, "You can cheat on your wife, you can cheat on your taxes," and then goes on to describe something that you can't cheat.

I'll pass on the first one as it regards to Monty Rushgrove, but the second one is too funny. It seems that he didn't pay his campaign's payroll taxes during the 2003 Gubernatorial campaign.

Every time he opens his mouth about fiscal responsibility on Gallo, I chuckle a little to myself. After leaving us in a $700 million hole, he managed to be a tax cheat. The next thing you know he'll talk about how frugal that $14 million flag vote was, or how cheap the commission he put together was.

He has a gripe with GWB about the traffic flow in Rankin County during the Presidential visit. Fair enough. He's wondering whether or not this could tip the election to Musgrove.

I wonder what Sid had to say a couple of years ago during the Saints/Colts preseason game at VMS, where traffic in downtown Jackson was an absolute disaster. How many people swore they'd never go to a Saints game again? Was Sid one of them?

Absurd, Sid. You can do better than that.

Does Not Compute

For someone who apparently has never heard of Barack Obama, Monty Rushgrove sure does campaign like him.

Recently (a hat tip to my guys over at Mississippi Dish) he termed President Bush's visit to Mississippi for a Wicker fundraiser a 'distraction.' Yeah, because it might distract people to the fact that two guys who put approximately $250,000 in your coffers are in jail.

Is there anything inconvenient that isn't a distraction to you guys? Heck, the next thing you know, an election is going to be inconvenient.

All The News Not Fit to Mention

The Beef Plant Fiasco is back...again. But you'd never know it reading articles by our alleged pre-eminent editorial writers. Hampton wants to dwell on how magical Barry Messiah is, or how the governor and his 'minions' are out to get us all. For all I know Sid Salter has an article in the works but right now all he wants to talk about is Medicaid and the death of George Carlin, with an occasional Samson reference thrown in because somebody sent a mean e-mail. Others talk of a conspiracy between the GOP and Big Tobacco to destroy southern Democrats (funny, since most of them tend to be able to screw things up on their own without any help from others)

(And as an aside, how come nobody ever writes an article about how the Democrats and Big Hollywood have teamed up to make propaganda films for the last seven years or so? And has anyone noticed that almost all of them are box office bombs? It was so bad that when Lions for Lambs came to DVD, the tv trailer suddenly went from 'anti-war conspiracy film' to 'leave no man behind.')

Yet none of them are writing about Monty Rushgrove taking money from the Beef Plant Braintrust. Maybe they think it's old news, but fresh indictments in the case demand that the issue be covered, and questions be asked, especially the new 'money pit' revelation. But hey, it's a Democratic year-who are they to interfere in the political process?

It took two months on this blog last year for anyone in the state media to bring up one of the most shameful acts of political retribution in recent memory to be brought up by Salter-the Jeremy Martin railroading was brought up on his blog, one time, almost as a throwaway. Instead of asking tough questions to Samson and the Golden Boy-and maybe asking a few people who sat near Mr. Franks in the House exactly what was said in a couple of early-January 2004 telephone calls-there was one blog post. The Beef Plant is just as bad and it continues to get worse as more and more figures go down. I guess when you're mourning George Carlin, though, it's tough to get around to that kind of thing.
