I Have Had Enough

Normally, I just let it roll like water off a ducks back, but I can't take it anymore. I've put up with it until I just can't take it anymore.

I'm sick of it, Peter King.

Yes, I know that the Greater Montclair Region in New Jersey is the center of the Universe, with all sorts of eccentri in orbit around it: Starbucks, nude gay performance art, John Edwards rallies, anything you could want.

I'm just tired of the condescention. Today was the last straw.

A week or two ago, Cultural Anthropologist that he is, King observed that the TVs in the Jackson Airport (where he undoubtedly was bemoaning the recent closure of the Madison and Jackson Starbucks) were tuned into the Speed Network instead of ESPN. Further, he was shocked that there was no discussion of the Yankees-Red Sox series. Truly, he must have felt as if he was in Deepest, Darkest Africa. I wonder if he marveled that everyone was wearing shoes.

But the last straw was the quote today from some Metrosexual in Alaska, bemoaning that while they might have the next Vice-President, they don't have a single Olive Garden.

Boo freaking hoo.

I realize that you can barely function without your morning fix of crack, I mean, Starbucks latte, Pete, but those of us who aren't from a major metropolitan area don't hurt because we don't have a $5.00 coffee. We can make it without the overpriced coffee and the overpriced entrees that we'd get at the Olive Garden. I suppose its shocking that we've made it this long on Johnny's Drive-In, Gurley's Restaurant, and Evergreen Fish and Steak.

Save your sympathy for people who actually need it. And while you're at it, leave the John Edwards cheerleading out.

Nash and Savage (A Contrarianism)

Jere Nash, pundit and Democrat operative, thinks that Michael Savage did damage to the conservative cause every time he opened his mouth.

Personally, I thought he did more damage when he gave money to Jerry Brown. You remember Jerry Brown-he of the far-left views and former California governor, later mayor of Oakland and commune resident, and current California attorney general. Savage gave Brown money for his campaign for AG last year. Folks, if you think Samson is bad, imagine a guy who is not afraid to tell people he has Socialist leanings having the power of the state behind him.

Savage is a poser, who had no real thought-out conservative position. Frankly, to me he came off as a guy imitating what he thought a conservative here in flyover country would sound like. He did a good job of it, but what position does he ever flesh out? Nothing. Just screaming into the microphone. And he makes money off of it. It's very American, but that doesn't make it any less put-on to me.

Journal Endorses McCoy for Speaker

I wonder who they will endorse for Senate President Pro Temp. Let me get this straight: The Newspaper of Record for Tupelo couldn't endorse a candidate for Lt. Governor, but they feel the need to do so for Speaker of the House? That's awesome. When do we get to vote? What? You mean the Speekah is elected by the membership of the House and not by the people of the state of Mississippi? When did this happen? You mean that the Newspapers of Record for both Tupelo and Jackson have endorsed someone that 122 people get to vote on? Quick, someone tell them that the Hickory Flat Student Council elections are coming up. Might want to get in on that endorsement while it's hot. Has Daily Kos put out a poll on that hot topic? The newspaper industry becomes more of a joke every day.

Let Me Stake Out a Controversial Position

The Bowl Championship Series works exactly as it should.

That's not a misprint, nor is it you reading it wrong. I said that the BCS, the most reviled concept in college football since...well, ever, really...works exactly as its supposed to. I might be the only guy in the western world who will take that position, but I'll be the Devil's Advocate in favor of the conglomerate of the six power conferences in college football.

When the BCS was formed, it was designed to give the best possible matchup for a national championship. There were three nightmare scenarios: First, three undefeated teams; second, two or more highly-ranked one-loss teams; and third, a bunch of two-loss teams and a lack of higher-ranked one loss teams.

The BCS did its job, as much as it pains me to say it, when the polls gave us the Ohio State-LSU matchup. It gave us the best possible matchup under its formula. Yeah, LSU has two losses, and Ohio State isn't as sexy as Georgia, Oklahoma, or Kansas. But, at the end of the day, the formula differentiated between the two-loss teams, as it was supposed to do. You can argue the human polls did it, but let's remember that LSU won its conference, which Georgia and Kansas didn't. Oklahoma did, and to me they have an argument. Yet Oklahoma has wins over Texas and Mizzou and not many others. They destroyed a weak Miami team; their other out of conference games were North Texas, Tulsa and Utah State, none of whom will be confused with the '72 Dolphins (or the '07 Pats?) any time soon. LSU's foes outside of conference were ACC champ Virginia Tech, and the equally unimpressive trio of Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, and Tulane. LSU defeated defending champ Florida as well, and were bested by a hot Kentucky team and Arkansas, featuring the best player in America taking over the game. Edge to LSU, and thus, they're in the game.

So the system, as it's been set up, works. It differentiated between the pack of teams that were left standing at the end of the season. Let's not get into the question of Mizzou being left out in favor of Hawaii, Kansas or Illinois. The BCS ranking system was set up for #1 to play #2. Everything after that is in the hands of the individual bowls.

And as I'm writing this, the Pats have just stopped the Ravens on a Hail Mary to end the game at the two yard line. Unbelievable.
